My initial idea was to use Sake, but I don't drink it and would have no use for the leftovers. I also live 25 minutes from the store and I'm lazy. Lucky for me upon doing some research I realized I could make the rice water with ingredients in my cupboard.
Here is what I found...
Possible benefits of rice water for the skin:
• Softer skin
• Excellent skin toner, tightens skin and pores
• Remove all dirt, oil and dead skin cells
• Helps to eliminate acne & oily skin, reduces redness
• Evens out skin tone
At this point I haven't found any research pointing to rice water giving the same benefits in soap form as in its natural state. I would think that it is quite possible it will have very little impact but will ultimately make a really nice bar of soap. Therefore label appeal is most likely.

Oils: Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Mango Butter
Additives: Ground Rice 2.5 oz in uncolored portion only.
Color: Indigo Powder & Gold Brazillian Clay
Fragrance: Ylang Ylang EO
Additional Notes:
To say I was concerned the rice water and its possible reaction with the lye as well as using such a floral scent is an understatement.
The fear was real people!
First times: Using a water substitute. Using EO. Using natural colorants.
Take aways:
I didn't end up with soap on a stick!! In fact it seems that the Ylang Ylang suspended and to a degree reversed trace giving me ample time to do whatever I wanted. I am used to working with a thicker batter so it was definitely something I want to try again with more colors.
I tried to have two different shades of blue. Creating a lighter shade with no TO was impossible. I choked and threw in the clay because I had it ready in case I didn't care for the base color. Looking back I wish I had just done one shade of blue and the base.
This is some sticky soap. It isn't good for my impatient self. I probably should have waited a few more days before cutting but I wanted to make the deadline.
Would I make it again?
Yes, but I have to say I would use mica. I love all the color choices. I would also probably not use the ground rice unless I could make it a lot smoother. I didn't care for how it made the soap look, and it didn't really add any
I'll definitely use ylang ylang again. I LOVE the smell and it behaved so well.
Final comments:
I tried a little sliver, and this stuff lathers like crazy! Creamy, dreamy! Add a little water and BOOM! Bubbles galore.
I wish I had a planer.
I thoroughly enjoyed this challenge. Can't wait for the next one.
Thank you Amy!
